I was born in New York and spent many years living in various parts of the state. I earned a B.S. degree in Sports and Exercise Science at the University of Buffalo. After spending several years in the fitness industry I realized that the best part of my day was the time that I spent teaching classes. So, I decided to pursue a M.S. degree in Education at Canisius College in Buffalo, New York. After shoveling 100 inches of snow before Christmas one year, my husband and I decided we needed to escape the cold and move some place warm and sunny – so upon graduation we moved to Las Vegas. Currently, I am working on a second Masters degree at UNLV (entirely through distance education) and am starting to wonder if I will ever stop taking classes J
I have been a teacher in Clark County School District for twelve years. This is my first year with Virtual High School and I am very excited to be here. I have taught both physical and life science at the middle school level for eleven years. Since I have taken online classes for several years I was thrilled with the idea of actually teaching classes full time for Virtual High School. Being an online student myself I understand the pros and cons of this type of learning. Personally, I love the flexibility of learning at my own convenience and understand the importance of self discipline that is required in order to be successful. From the teaching standpoint, I love the challenge of delivering current and up-to-date information. In the ever changing field of science using websites and current events adds a whole new dimension to the science curriculum.
When I am not working I keep very busy with my family. My husband Mark is an Anatomy and Physiology teacher at Coronado High School. We have two young boys a six and a seven year old that have a lot of energy. We love to travel and spend time outdoors. We enjoy jet skiing, cycling, hiking, camping, and swimming but usually not on the same day.
