Hello, and thanks for your interest in the VHS Driver's Education Program -

I'm Mr. Chris James, the Driver's Ed teacher.

The program consists, currently, of COURSEWORK (reading, and worksheets) delivered via the internet and an INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPORT SESSION, more if the student needs it, of LIVE instructor interaction, on the computer. A course runs for roughly a month - the work required is fairly intense - and the program is geared to prepare the student to take and pass the DMV License Exam. We provide, electronically, the DMV's Driver's Handbook, and the Driver's Training Manual (for parents and students).

Within 48 hourse of the course start time, your instructor will email how and where to login. Learners and parents will want to log on to the VHS website @ www.ccsdde.net and click on the link labeled Blackboard. This is the online classroom where the COURSEWORK is delivered. On that page, centered, is a button labeled TEST YOUR BROWSER. This will let you know if your machine is capable of supporting your student in their efforts. Within Blackboard, you will see labeled tabs at the top of the screen. The Virtual High School tab is where you can access your class material. The Instructional Support Session tab is where the student enters our virtual, LIVE support sessions to either speak or text chat with me. There, I answer questions; offer support; check on progress; etc.

To access the "live" Instructional Support Session - a student MAY (not required) log in to the program by clicking on the Instructional Support Session tab and signing in with their username and password. That session is scheduled, this semester, for MONDAY mornings @ 11am. By special arrangement, a 4pm time may also be made available. MOST newer computers (less than 3 years old) are able to function capably for this purpose.

Each time a student signs up for the course, two subsequent testing opportunities are provided - if a student passes the exam, they are notified their Certificate of Completion (required by Nevada DMV) is ready for pick up at Virtual High School's office. As the certificate requires a raised registrar's seal, it cannot be faxed or e mailed.

If a student fails to take the exam, or is not successful on the exam, he or she must re-enroll - and complete the coursework - before being eligible to take the exam again.

If I may answer any other questions, please don't hesitate to contact me – either inside Blackboard, using the messaging system, or at cdjames@interact.ccsd.net. General technical questions may be directed to the User Support Help Desk.

Thank You!
