English Literature & Composition AP

An AP English Literature and Composition course engages students in the careful reading and critical analysis of imaginative literature. Through the close reading of selected texts, students deepen their understanding of the ways writers use language to provide both meaning and pleasure for their readers. As they read, students consider a work’s structure, style, and themes as well as such smaller-scale elements as the use of figurative language, imagery, symbolism, and tone. Composition and Literature AP is designed for the student capable of doing college-level work while still in high school. The course is more rigorous and demanding than other English courses designed for the college-bound student. This course will fulfill one of the four English credits required for graduation. It is expected students will take the AP exam in May. See your school counselor if you have a financial hardship. This course is offered on alternating years, check for availability.
